Video Premiere: Pigeon Breeders & Ghost Cars - Sun Whispers

In 2019 two acts in the Edmotnon experimental scene came together and magic ensued. Will Scott, Myles Bartel (Pigeon Breeders) and Matthew Belton (Ghost Cars) are all considered mainstays in the prairie experimental music community. Pigeon Breeders formed in 2011 and quickly came to prominence with their unique blend of ambient, electroacoustic, free improvisation, noise, and psych. Ghost Cars began as a lofi, cassette-based project in 2006 and have amassed 15 years worth of mysterious releases which have utilized guitars, samples, drum machines, and synths to convey themes such as death, loss, and madness. As a collaboration, Pigeon Breeders & Ghost Cars blend their backgrounds to create a sensory overload with elements of ambient, free improvisation, sound collage, psychedelic rock, and more.

Their first full-length album, Stasis, arrives October 27th on cassette via Pseudo Laboratories, as well as digitally through streaming platforms. The press release reveals the album,

“Explores a slow decay of identity, habit, and connectedness and offers an ember of perseverance.”

It was recorded over August and September of 2021 from free improvisation sessions but is said to have gone through a more intensive selection process than on previous albums.

Today we are very excited to share the video for the lead off single, “Sun Whispers.” It was created by another mainstay in Edmonton’s experimental community, Parker Thiessen. Enjoy the video below and be sure to catch Pigeon Breeders & Ghost Cars release shows in Edmonton on October 27th at The Aviary with Kelly Ruth and Low Earth Orbit and in Calgary November 5th at The Next Page with Jung People.

The album is available for pre-order on the Pigeon Breeders Bandcamp.
