Premiere: Trevor Sloan - Ottawa 1977
The Cups N Cakes Network have been fans of the nostalgic folk work of Trevor Sloan since we stumbled upon his 2020 album, Green Reflections. We made that album a “Pick Of The Week” as well as his follow-up in 2021, The Fur Of The Bulrush. Today we are very excited to premiere the first single from his next album which will be called Dusk Among the Plum Trees and is set to arrive on April 14th, 2023.
We are premiering a song called "Ottawa 1977" in video form. Both the video and the song itself are steeped in tones from that decade. Sloan explains:
“I was inspired by the warmth of 1970s photography. The accompanying video features footage from my grandfather’s home videos, filmed with an 8mm camera. Writing the song, I was also thinking of my grandmother’s apartment in Ottawa. In the courtyard, there was a clothesline to hang laundry. If you were in the kitchen, the radio was usually on. In the family room, there were often tabloid magazines on the coffee table and The Price is Right on the old TV. For me, it was a golden place full of good family memories.”
Enjoy the song below and if you like what you hear, consider supporting Trevor Sloan via Bandcamp.
