Vancouver’s Laverne blend post-punk and grunge into an exciting sound that is quickly putting them on the map across Western Canada. Their bio describes them as the sonic equivalent of a mid-day nap turned sour: moody, groggy and a bit confused… It’s an incredibly apt description. Their sophomore album, Lack Of Vocation, has seen its share of delays due to the Coronavirus Pandemic but we are pleased to report it will finally be released in mid-September. Along with this news, the Cups N Cakes Network is ecstatic to be premiering the albums second single “Matter Of Tact” in the form of a music video directed by, close friend to the band, Zachary Lacosse.

When asked about the song, front person Max Anderson-Baier said:

“Matter Of Tact was recorded in the winter of 2019 in the home of our bass player, Pherbie Midgley, who also handled all of the audio engineering. We tried to approach this recording session differently. Whereas our past efforts had been done rapidly, we consciously took our time, recording late into the night and sleeping feet away from our make-shift studio. The result is a sound that is both intimate and deliberate.”

About the video, Lacosse explains:

“At an extremely strenuous moment in modern history (the very beginning of lockdown), I felt like the video had to be a private sort of lightning rod for what had been going on in Max’s life at the time, my relationship with him after he left to find a different job, and the shattering sense of uncertainty and despair that has come since the pandemic tightened its grasp. The lyrics reflect this in many ways, in a retroactive way, but altogether the work is meant to illustrate my feelings, the world tonality, and the private happenings in Max’s life, and my life as someone so close to him. The limitations of social distancing allowed the two of us to share this central conceit. It was just the two of us filming, a reliving of our last days at work together.”
