Premiere: Alien To The Ignorant - Astringent

Hardcore lover’s rejoice! Today the Cups N Cakes Network is pleased to announce the debut album from Saskatchewan’s Alien To The Ignorant. The release is called A Dying Art, and it’s slated for release on October 15th.

Alien To The Ignorant used their inability to tour during the pandemic to dive head-first into the studio. What came out was eleven songs that explore themes of domestic abuse, hegemonic masculinity, racism, and existentialism in the face of ongoing socioeconomic and environmental injustice. The band hopes this record will allow others (and themselves), to admit what is truly troubling them so they may then find the courage to seek meaningful change.

Today we are very excited to premiere the track “Astringent” which is a song about neocolonialism. More specifically, since no member of Alien to the Ignorant is Indigenous themselves, the song is about personally reflecting on one's own place and privilege in Canadian society as a result of colonization.

Enjoy the track below and catch the band on tour as they take A Dying Art across Canada on their first tour in over two years with stops spread out between Quebec, Ontario, and the Prairies.
