Premiere: JP Lancaster - "West End"

Kamloops artist JP Lancaster just released a great EP entitled Shapes In The Dark and he’s already following it up with a new single that we are very excited to be premiering. The song is called “West End” and it arrives today in the form of a video comprised of footage from Mathieu Kassovitz’s film, La Haine.

When asked about the song, Lancaster revealed:

“West End” itself is about trivial social posturing. When I moved to Vancouver from Kamloops I always felt my social class was quite prominently on display. There’s probably an explanation to unpack there as to why I’m pirating foreign films for video content.”

And regarding said foreign film:

“La Haine is without a doubt in the discussion for greatest film of all time. The cinematography is stunning, and the prophetic nature of the themes is unparalleled. Beyond the obvious commentary on the failed integration of immigrants from the former French colonies into France, there is a broader portrayal of the sense of suburban alienation. I chose scenes where the framing suggests this.”

The single gets released this Friday and can be pre-ordered here.
