Montreal artist, Pompey has been honing his chops the past ten years as a bassist for some Cups N Cakes favourites like Thanya Iyer (#6 Best Album of 2020), and Common Holly (#19 Best Album of 2019). This December he’ll be releasing a new album called Overwhelmed that is said to be an eclectic, exploratory record of lullabies for different parts of the day. It will arrive through Anything Bagel with a limited run of screen-printed cassettes available. Today we are very happy to give you a first taste by premiering two tracks that will be found on the record.

For today’s premiere, we caught up with Pompey to ask him about the first two songs from the album, “Overwhelmed” and “Body Scan.”

“This album was born out of repetition, at a time where I was barely going anywhere and under a 5 month long curfew, I found myself writing songs about the things that I would do every day. These songs were two of the first to come out of that process, ‘Body Scan’ is about a guided meditation that I did every day, first thing after waking up which started pre-pandemic but became even more necessary to deal with the constant health related anxiety that was given a new life by the pandemic. ‘Overwhelmed’ was written at one of the hardest points in the pandemic. Getting very little sunlight each day, at home all the time in a small, dark apartment, I was gradually losing my ability to take care of myself. It brought me to a place where I was very easily overwhelmed by the slightest thing going wrong. I was crying the whole time writing this song and when it  was done, it served as a reminder of how I want to treat myself.”
