Sloburn is the solo project of Montreal’s Ali Hendra. In 2018, she co-founded the alternative-folk group MAYBEL and released Gathering (a former “Pick Of The Week”) in 2020 via Vain Mina and Idee Fixe Records.

Hendra describes Sloburn as her tool to turn darkness into light:

“The project allows me to safely access any wounds that need healing... somewhere to go when I need to rely on myself.”

Today we are very happy to deliver an exclusive premiere of a brand new track from Sloburn called “Jackhammer (lullaby),” which was produced by “it’s Matt” (AKA Matt Rogers of Fleece) and is said to be the first glimpse into an upcoming full length.

When asked about the song, Ali Hendra said:

“The core of the song is about the hyper-specific experience of falling in love with someone during a global pandemic. This context made for a particular kind of partnership that was intimate in ways I hadn’t experienced before, while also existing in a vacuum. It was hard to feel connected to love and other good emotions when there was so much fear circulating around the world.

I was calm in my internal world when I wrote it, and that became a wave of warmth to return to. It felt like writing a resolve before you get there, making the balm for the open wound.”

Enjoy!
