Premiere: Neighbourly - Whoopsies

Today we are very excited to introduce the world to a new take on a Cups N Cakes favourite. We first caught wind of Victoria’s SPEAK EASY when they released their debut album, Rainbow River, in May of 2020. We covered it as a “Pick Of The Week” and began patiently awaiting more. As it turns out, SPEAK EASY evolved over the course of the pandemic, the psych-pop elements were always there but they turned up the funk dial and decided to rebrand as Neighbourly.

Today we are very excited to deliver their first two singles as Neighbourly. The first track, “Wake Up” was previously released a month ago but the second track is available for the first time today through the Cups N Cakes Network.

The tracks were written during the summer of 2021, demo’d during isolation periods and then recreated when the band reunited in the autumn. They were self-recorded and engineered in their home studio, then mixed by Latham Reader and mastered by David Parry of Loving.

Each track shines a light on the band’s diverse influences within their songwriting processes; the poppier “Wake Up” induces a feeling of optimism near to watching the sun rise, whereas “Whoopsies” propels a similar sense of self-forgiveness and living ever-presently, projected as a psychedelic ballad.

Enjoy!
