Premiere: Cain Price - Please

Last year we were introduced to Vancouver DIY folk artist, Cain Price. We loved his debut EP, Open Call, making it a “Quick Pick” with Brandon Kruze saying:

“The debut from Vancouver-based multi instrumentalist Cain Price, Open Call is a relaxing blend of jazz, folk, and lo-fi – soulful melodies and instrumentals. This is a release bound to make you close your eyes and groove out to its lush sound. Open Call takes pride in its DIY approach, a style I appreciate greatly.”

Honing his sound since 2019, Price’s unique take on folk music fuses sampling and electronics with accessible pop, while his lyrics explore ideas of selfishness, egoism and confusion in the digital age. Today we are excited to be premiering the second single from his sophomore EP which is due for release in the fall of 2022.

The track we are sharing today is called “Please” and it was written as a sort of breakup letter to humanity, inspired by the loneliness that Price felt during the Covid-19 pandemic. The track explores the loss of sincerity he felt in relationships as the restrictions kept people from each other. He ponders what friendships mattered and whether it might be best just to be left alone.

The single arrives today in the form of a video created by Chris Mills. To craft the video, Mills employed an AI system that estimated and rendered the depth of each clip then he degraded and pixelated the clips in real time.
