Premiere: Ira Dot - “Bodies”
A new Toronto duo called Ira Dot is emerging with impeccable eclectic production that pulls inspiration from outsider-folk, twee-pop, slacker-rock and more to craft a truly unique sound. Eddy Wang & Ryan Akler-Bishop are the creative forces behind this project whose debut album, In Blue Time, is set to arrive on February 27th. The record is an ode to all things blue: the shade of melancholy, of ocean water, of the body’s maze of capillaries. It features Wang’s metaphysical, confessional vocals over Akler-Bishop’s eclectic production and is an intimate whisper from a beloved friend that sometimes turns into a rousing emotional release.
Thematically, the record looks at different manifestations of melancholia, especially racial melancholia: a theory on how racial trauma and subjugation produce conditions of loss in diasporic people of colour. Wang examines his ambivalence of feeling “not Asian enough,” as if his being has lost some essential yet unplaceable component of China.
Today we are very excited to premiere the second single from Ira Dot’s In Blue Time. Enjoy the song “Bodies” below and pre-order their debut album digitally or on vinyl if you like what you hear and want to support this incredible new act.
