Premiere: Raf Wilcot - “Wind”

Raf Wilcot is a Toronto-based artist and musician whose work spans installation, improvisation, production, and songwriting. We stumbled across this impressive artist in 2024 with the release of the track “Slither” which we covered in our Quick Picks column. Today we are very excited to help announce that a new EP from Raf Wilcot will arrive on November 6th.

The EP is called The Other Side of the Window and on it Wilcot examines the idea of existing without trying to understand why… simply being. Much like the single “Slither” that caught our attention a couple year ago, the arrangements are unique and the music is difficult to define. It’s lush with big sweeping moments yet it remains fragile and delicate. If ever there was a release to define as “beautiful,” The Other Side of the Window would be that release. The EP features performances by Wilcot’s friends: Caleb Clawson on drum kit, Eliza Niemi on cello, Enzo Sun and Katie Lee on vocals, and David Lavoie on EVI.

Today we are very excited to premiere the single from The Other Side of the Window with the help of an animated video. Check out “Wind” below then saunter over to Wilcot’s Bandcamp page for more.

Jeff MacCallum is our founder. He created Cups N Cakes simply because he had a love of local music. Soon the platform grew beyond the confines of his scene in Edmonton to include all of Canada.

"I did it all very DIY. Everything you see was me learning on the fly. I'm a carpenter not a musician, or a journalist, or a publicist... I'm a carpenter and a weird crazy music fan that thought he could do something fun that might benefit something I care about"

Over the years, MacCallum's commitment to elevating Canadian music earned him a spot as a Polaris Prize Juror, a WCMA Juror, a consultant for music festival curation, and a dear friend to independent music in Canada.
