We couldn’t be more excited to be premiering the excellent new music video from Edmonton singer-songwriter (and Cups N Cakes editor in chief!) Sean Davis Newton. The single, “Glass Eye”, comes from Newton’s newly announced and upcoming album Bird Brain, and its easy going blend of folk rock is perfectly matched by its charmingly irreverent lyrics. It’s an enticing teaser forwhat will be Newton’s debut LP, and it showcases Newton’s penchant for wordplay, widescreen compositions, and neatly twisting melodic knots that became his hallmark on earlier EPs and singles like Nobody Lives There and Ur Clean.

The video was shot on a strange little handcranked 35mm film camera, and was painstakingly developed and scanned by Newton himself, who also employed Lysol and other chemicals to further color and distort the images. The result is a stylish and unique video that compliments the track’s free-wheeling whimsy, producing a celebratory work that is full of life, friends, and community.

The full album Bird Brain will be out on October 18th, 2024. You can check out the video for “Glass Eye” below, and preorder Bird Brain on Bandcamp here.
