Video premiere: Grimm - "Walking Around in an Ice Castle That is Melting"

Grimm is a Vancouver based indietronica band from Vancouver that first caught our attention with their 2021 record Electro Folklore, and today we’re excited to debut the music video for their most recent single “Walking Around in an Ice Castle That is Melting” off of their forthcoming LP Your Head is a House. The band has grown into a five piece since that 2021 record, and now includes the talents of Naia Mann, Cody Schroeter, Chris Bede, and Len Plisic, as well as founding member Sam Herle.

The video dives deep into the 90s-core visuals that are present all across their excellent website, albeit with a somewhat gothic and fantastical bent. The song starts with a dreamy vocal, floating overtop of a roomy snare drum pattern, and sysnthesizers reminiscent of Super Nintendo era video games. Around the 1:30 mark, the bass drum shifts to a four-on-the-floor beat, and the song unexpectedly shifts from a swirling, ambient, number into something that would feel at home in a club scene in 1999.

The full record Your Head is a House comes out August 18th, and in the meantime, you watch the video for “Walking Around in an Ice Castle That is Melting” below, or listen to the song on all streaming platforms.
