Calvin Love - Throw My Shadow To The Sun

Rare Form / Taxi Gauche Records

Released on February 13th, 2026

On Throw My Shadow To The Sun, Calvin Love goes a-waltzing in the guise of a couple of rock’s most iconic specimens to deliver an album chock-full of wistful romance and glimmering nostalgia.

It is a delicate balance.  Under the weight of such lofty references, the soul and essence of the songs risk being overshadowed. Are these tunes a reflection of Love’s true musical spirit, or the pastiche of a referential aesthete? Both, perhaps, and that’s a good thing.  Love’s willingness to dive into Mark Knopfler’s riffery and JJ Cale’s breezy shuffle serves to heighten the true essence of the songs: the ache of time passing, the savouring of cherished moments before they slip away forever.  The album sweeps you along in a sort of fever dream, through a cruel and callous landscape, in a state of distressed malaise that can only be mended by Love’s grand and sophisticated gestures. Is this all just a set up to allow Love to swoop in as a swashbuckler, to chaperone you through rocky terrain? Perhaps! But what matters most, distressed damsel, is that your worries are soothed and your fears quelled by his promises and lullabies.

If you allow yourself to be swept away by the referential riffs, the sultry crooning, the smouldering aches and vague promises of this self-designed loverboy, you will no doubt be left panting (and possibly pants-less) and wanting more.  Calvin Love is a true savant, who celebrates with grand indulgence to capture grand feeling.
