Sham Family, Marissa Burwell, Ghostly Kisses, and bruxist

Sham Family – Sham Family

The debut, self-titled EP rom Toronto’s Sham Family establishes them as a hardcore post punk act complete with subjects such as anti-authoritarianism, the class divide, and the struggle of finding faith. Their melodic vocals, their heavy orchestration, and their capability to include slower segments throughout their songs makes for a refreshing take on the post punk genre.

Marissa Burwell – Bittersweet

Bittersweet is the newest release from Regina-based musician Marissa Burwell. These nine songs take on a variety of sound; from the acoustic folk track “Roles Reversed”, the indie groove “Take A Load Off”, and the poppy “Francis”. The variety of sounds while containing Burwell’s distinct vocals makes each song unique yet familiar.

Ghostly Kisses – Heaven, Wait

From Quebec are Ghostly Kisses and their newest album Heaven, Wait is ten tracks of dreamy indie pop with themes of romance, loneliness, and a general emphasis on heavy emotion. Taking its time to deliver each lush chord and each wise word, this is an album that demands attention of both heart and mind.

bruxist – “Chloe Hates Spacetime”

From Edmonton-based artist bruxist is their newest single, “Chloe Hates Spacetime”. This 11 minute track is an ever expanding blend of slow and soft acoustic guitar pickings with a fast paced and aggressive drumming. This contrasting mix creates an unpredictable listening experience that takes us listeners through an uncharted soundscape.
