Aladean Kheroufi, Peace Flag Ensemble, Pilfermusic, and Suzanne de Bussac

Aladean Kheroufi – LOVE! ... (is the answer) b/w Every Girl

I first heard Aladean Kheroufi live at Edmonton’s Purple City Music Festival, and his new single takes me back to his performance that day, with his seductive vocals and ensemble of musical friends. In fact, this was one of the songs he played. I described his performance as “sexually electrifying”, and this still applies with their studio recordings.

Peace Flag Ensemble – “This City Is A Queen”

Regina’s Peace Flag Ensemble brings an experimental jazz experience to the table with their newest single, “This City Is A Queen.” It’s a beautiful composition that uses their slow tempo band of piano, synths, and flugelhorn as it evokes feelings of past, present, and future. It takes the mind to a delightful, timeless place.

Pilfermusic – You... made it weird [EP]

Pilfermusic (hailing from Edmonton) and their newest EP is a treasure trove of experimental EDM, blending together some groovy basslines, fidgety beats, fragmented vocals, and having it roam through an unpredictable atmosphere of sound. It’s a must listen for fans of exploring deep textured soundscapes with eye widening wonder.

Suzanne de Bussac – “Secret Valentine”

Calgary-based musician Suzanne de Bussac delivers a tear jerking single, “Secret Valentine.” Opening with Suzanne’s vocals and piano before unfolding into an orchestra of instruments following behind her poetic lyricism, this is a single that will tug at your heart strings with its neoclassical take of post-punk pop.
