Brenna Lowrie, Hermitess, The Sylvia Platters, and The Cavernous

Brenna Lowrie - Changing Skies

Two beautiful versions of Neil Young songs, Brenna Lowrie is a multi-instrumentalist from Lethbridge who delivers some of the most amazing folk music I’ve heard in a long time. From the organs to the acoustic guitars, Lowrie's full voice pierces straight to the heart. This single is criminally underrated.

Hermitess - Ace of Cups

This new release from Calgary’s Hermitess is a fascinating project that features remixed and reimagined tracks from two of their previous EP’s. A folk structure in a poppy package, each song on this album is a refreshing take on an already amazing track, showing how much delivery can be tweaked through a sound alone.

The Sylvia Platters - Youth Without Virtue

The moment I heard this song I was brought back to reformed dreams of college rock in the early 2000’s. (Not that I went to college in the early 2000’s. I didn’t go to college at all.) This new EP from Vancouver’s Sylvia Platters is catchy as all hell with their heavy shoegaze sound. It’s the kind of music to take you back, like comfort food for the ears.

The Cavernous - Siamese Spine Split

If you’re a fan of abstract instrumental soundscapes, then I couldn’t recommend Siamese Spine Split enough. The newest release from Kelowna electro duo The Cavernous, this EP has four tracks that all take their own direction in sound with a variety of structure and intensity. It’s great thinking music to get you in the zone.
