Choses Sauvages, Magi Merlin, Raz Fresco, and Psychedelic Dirt
Choses Sauvages - III
Jittery glittery new-old-wave jams that hit the spot like a perfectly made ice cream sandwich on a hot summer’s day. These groovy electro-wave nuggets are bouncy and propulsive, breaking into the occasional Talking Heads-esque jam that will help you ignore your modern malaise for the dance floor.
Magi Merlin - A Weird Little Dog A Weird Little Dog
A Weird Little Dog A Weird Little Dog is four glitchy, fractious songs that shower the listener like the shards of a deconstructed (decayed, delayed, destroyed, decomposed), R&B landscape. While fractured, the songs maintain their R&B essence, that lusty and luscious drip. Check out "BOOTY" and "LICK!" if you don’t believe me.
Raz Fresco - Stadium Lo Champions
Shivery, slippery, verbal karate from Toronto rapper Raz Fresco. Sounds a bit like Ras Kass meets Dwight Spitz meets YOD meets God Fahim meets Elzhi meets Roc Marci meets Dilated Peoples meets Scaramanga, I could go on and on with worthy comparisons. Very tight and cohesive production with that sinister east coast thump that pairs perfectly with Fresco’s street-wise tone and delivery. This is heyday, mid-90’s era stuff. Tip your Lo hat to this one.
Psychedelic Dirt - Most Frantic
Nothing beats a solid Friday night like being down in the jam space with the boys, just as the beers and mushrooms start to conspire upon the mind, and your Schecter Hellraiser C-1 starts to squelch in ways that can only be described as “Splooshy” when applied directly to your Traynor YGL1 All-Tube 15W 1x12 Guitar Combo. Thenceforth, like a funnel cloud that whips up unexpectedly in the middle of a suburban lawn, the gates of hell are cracked open and the four of you are vectors of controlling the portal with your sonic bloodletting. “Damn, look at my fretboard,” Rich says during a brief lull in the chaos. You look and see blood running down it from a cut on his finger during the chaos. “Shit,” you say, “that’s gnarly.”
