Video Premiere: Nora Toutain - "Women"

Nora Toutain is a Montreal based, Moroccan born Soul/R&B singer who is making serious waves in Canada. Her highly anticipated album, Grounding Place Vol. I, was supposed to be out in May but due to the COVID-19 pandemic she had to delay. The only problem with that was simply how anticipated this album had become. She was getting significant radio play and CBC music had just ranked her in their Top 10 Outstanding Soulful Female Artists. Feeling the need to keep things moving forward until the album sees the light of day (a Fall release is now expected), Toutain began releasing singles and today, the Cups N Cakes Network is honoured to be sharing the video for her brand new single entitled “Women.”

During lockdown, Toutain began going through archived footage of a family party that was taken on her last trip home to Morocco. She compiled the clips to create a DIY music video for “Women” that portrays multiple generations of North African, Arab, European and Indigenous women that are a part of the singer’s cultural heritage and identity. The video aims was to unite women from all different walks of life. Toutain explains:

“Through this video, I’m sharing my identity on an intimate level and inviting everyone to celebrate and honour the everyday women in their lives.”
