Premiere: Ultra Mega - Goodbye, Felicia

At the end of 2020, we premiered a video and reported that a new EP from Winnipeg favourites, Ultra Mega, would be arriving in early 2021… that didn’t happen. The EP was to be titled Money Shot and had us beaming with enough excitement to add it to our list of the Most Anticipated of 2021. Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that it never came, this is the same band whose debut album, Ultra Mega, was completed and shelved for seven years before it was finally released and ended up on all of our Best of 2017 lists. That album marked the last time Ultra Mega released new music (other than the would-be single from Money Shot called “Good Vibrations”).

Today the Cups N Cakes Network is very excited to announce that the four year wait for new music from one of our favourite Winnipeg acts is finally over. December 18th will see the release of a new album from Ultra Mega through Eat Em Up Records. (and no, it’s not Money Shot… we’ll have to keep waiting for that one)

The release will be called Panis Angelicus and it is described as a “west-end western” that tells the tale of a man’s fleeting connection to his indifferent surroundings. It was inspired by countless desultory ramblings, and the narrative-tinged country music of Lee Hazlewood. The seven-song album chaperones the listener though the dusty and deserted streets of west end Winnipeg.

The album will be rolled out with the help of music videos for six of its seven tracks. The videos are all connected, based on a walk that frontman JD Ormond took with videographer Matt Purchase.

Today we are premiering the first video for the song “Goodbye, Felicia.” It introduces us to the albums main character as he plods through the landmarks and monuments of his own neighbourhood in a state of bemused perplexity, stopping from time to time to engage and interact with them.

Enjoy the video below and keep coming back to Cups N Cakes because we’ll have some more Ultra Mega goodies coming up in the coming weeks.
