A new punk band is emerging from the pandemic in Edmonton, Alberta. Made up of long time veterans of their local music scene, Wax Duplex are here to prove that some good things actually came out of this horrendous 15+ months.

Today we are very excited to introduce Canada to this great new band with an exclusive premiere of their first EP, Shallow Pockets, which is set to drop on May 15th. Cups N Cakes caught up with guitarist and vocalist Kendall Orr for more details.

CNC: How did Wax Duplex form?

KO: It's interesting what you come up with when you send the vibes out there. I'd known Travis for about 7 or 8 years but hadn't seen him in about 6. We ran into each other at a Preoccupations show on my birthday and knew we had to make some music. Cian just appeared. Wanted to jam. Ok, done.

CNC: What is the make up of the band?

KO: Travis Matchett on drums, Cian Homeniuk on bass. Whatever this was gonna be, it was following up a 7 year stint with RHG and with the recent relocation of 2/3 of Rats Ass, it was the new deal. Both Travis and Cian have so much to offer but when I asked them, they didn't want me to bother listing their resume’s… Let's just say, they are beyond capable.

CNC: Finally, tell us about the debut EP.

KO: The songs on Shallow Pockets are the first overall. I had them pretty much done but these guys worked the arrangements over where needed. They're pretty honest and I'm fine with that. We set the fifth one aside for safe keeping and wrote more, but realized times were uncertain. The recordings were finished in my basement before the second wave lockdown then we got Clay Marshall Francis to master it and Mattie Cuvilier to duplicate the cassettes.

Enjoy the debut release from Wax Duplex and be sure to smash that pre-order button!
