Premiere: Self-Cut Bangs - In Colour

Calgary’s Self-Cut Bangs are roaring back into our lives with their sophomore album slated for release on November 18th. The record is called Circle Around The Free and is follows their 2020 self tiled debut album which we named a “Pick Of The Week” upon its release.

For the uninitiated, Self-Cut Bangs was started by couple Cayley O'Neill (Dark Time) and Shawn Petsche (Napalmpom) as an escapist home recording project during the pandemic. The project involved writing and recording one new song in a single day every Saturday, gesturing towards an alternate reality where loud amplifiers in packed clubs were still a thing. Little did O'Neill and Petsche know, the release would be an underground success and would force them to deliver us more!

On Circle Around The Free, the bands continues their rock & roll approach but pepper in broader palette of influences and a more personal and reflective reaction to the strangest of times and much personal change. The other difference is that O'Neill and Petsche had to figure out how to play live. As shown in the video for this albums greta lead-off single, “Shivers,” the couple went out and enlisted a team of Calgary greats that include Joel Nye (Hot Little Rocket) on drums, Dillon Whitfield (Astral Swans, Reuben & The Dark) on guitar, and Nicola Cavanagh (Cardiograms, Night Committee) on bass.

Today we are very excited to share ”In Colour,” track four from the album. It arrives today in the form of a video inspired by classic photo shoots from Abba, Blondie, and Queen. It’s raw and intimate, and the video doubles as the first proper introduction of the live band members

Enjoy the track below and pre-order Circle Around The Free here. (pssst… perhaps consider that pre-order today… it’s Bandcamp Friday!)
