Premiere: Pails/Buckets - “Elvis Presley”

I had never heard Pails/Buckets when they were added to the Cups N Cakes Winterruption showcase. It’s always fun to go into a show completely devoid of expectations and just seeing what happens. In the case of Pails/Buckets, I was blown away. They play a jangly indie-rock that had me thinking of Pavement… but if all the band members were as proficient at their instruments as Stephen Malkmus. It’s hard to make this make sense but they are an extremely tight loose band. I loved the show and now I’m very excited to be able to deliver an exclusive listen to the lead-off track from their debut EP a couple days before it officially drops.

I asked frontman Ned Kroczynski to give me some details on the debut:

“Western Hog Exchange is a three-song indie rock EP that we recorded with Sean Davis Newton back in September at Riverdale Recorders, in a one-day blitz from early morning to late night. The three songs are an excellent representation of what you get at a Pails/Buckets show. It's a record that's meant for dancing, yes, but also for falling over and hitting your head.”

The EP release show is this Friday, March 27th at Aviary in Edmonton. It’s a stacked bill so if you’re in the City of Champions, I’d highly recommend you check it out. For everyone else, enjoy the track “Elvis Presley” below and please consider purchasing to support the band.
