Premiere: The Pierce Kingans - Only By The Best
The Cups N Cakes Network have had a soft spot for The Pierce Kingans for years. There’s something about their genre-fluid approach to DIY indie-rock and pop that speaks to us. Perhaps it’s a kinship to their do-it-yourself aesthetics. We are, after all, a 100% learn on the fly, DIY, amateur music journalistic endeavour. Or maybe I just have a love for their melodies-first approach that delivers catchy choruses with laissez-faire arrangements. Whatever the case may be, over the Cups N Cakes tenure as a Canadian music media outlet we’ve interviewed them and reviewed May I Pierce Upon You, Pierceful Protest, The Piercekeepers, and Pièrce de Résistance.
Today we are excited to be the outlet that was trusted with an exclusive full-album premiere of Only By The Best, their latest offering which will be dropping everywhere on Friday. The album was recorded last summer at the bands former studio by drummer Ian Browne. The band went outside of their DIY ethos to nab Steven Drake (from The Odds) to mix and do a final remaster for the vinyl. The record also features some guest players, Wes Cook plays bass on “Negativity Bias,” Adam Kyle plays sax, Thad Bailey-Mai appears on “Slowpoke” and Elisa Thron plays harp on “Save The World.”
We are confident you’ll fall in love with The Pierce Kingans after pressing play on the album below. When you do, please consider hitting the “pre-order” button in the player to support the band by purchasing their music.
