Thematically, the record examines the decline of the family system. The lyrics provide a glimpse into lives shattered by unaddressed mental health issues and instability in the home while also acknowledging the happier memories of the past. It attempts to come to terms with walking away from family for ones own well-being. Such a daunting theme requires music to accentuate this gravitas and Chic Chameleon delivers that with ease. Jangly guitar provides the foundation for these tracks as swarming synths swell with emotional release and Froese’s reverb soaked vocals are dreamy and soulful. It’s an impressive debut album.
