Premiere: Marshall Jacklin - “Again, Again”

The Cups N Cakes Network is happy to introduce our followers to Marshall Jacklin, a Toronto-based artist whose work explores recovery, masculinity, memory, and emotional reconstruction through music, print, and digital media. Today we are premiering a single from his latest work, A Start to Coming Back to Life. The multidisciplinary project features an album with an essay-based magazine, zines, sheet music, and interactive website that all accompany and enhance the listening experience. Together, these multiple forms of expression are meant to explore what emotional recovery looks like within everyday life.

Today we are premiering the track “Again, Again” which tackles themes of depression and opens as a solo piano number but builds into lush arrangements that include strings, woodwinds, and brass. Lyrically, as Jacklin explores a stage of depression where hope is gone and the future is unknown, the composition hints at a positive outcome. It’s a gorgeous song.

Have a listen to the track below and pre-order A Start to Coming Back to Life ahead of its September 17th release by hitting the link in the player.

Jeff MacCallum

Jeff MacCallum is our founder. He created Cups N Cakes simply because he had a love of local music. Soon the platform grew beyond the confines of his scene in Edmonton to include all of Canada.

"I did it all very DIY. Everything you see was me learning on the fly. I'm a carpenter not a musician, or a journalist, or a publicist... I'm a carpenter and a weird crazy music fan that thought he could do something fun that might benefit something I care about"

Over the years, MacCallum's commitment to elevating Canadian music earned him a spot as a Polaris Prize Juror, a WCMA Juror, a consultant for music festival curation, and a dear friend to independent music in Canada.
