Premiere: Avery Laird - “Doomed”
Toronto’s Avery Laird is a new artist who’s working towards the release of his debut album, Sleepwalker, on October 13th. His two first singles have drawn early praise from publications and both share a strong late 90s early 2000s, pop forward, alt-grunge sound. Today we are very excited to premiere the third single from the release which has a much different sound.
“Doomed” is a sparse alt-country tune with gentle acoustic guitar, drums, and bass. The docile instrumentation sets the stage for the track’s two highlights; first the subtle banjo picking gives extra depth for the second standout which is Avery Laird’s vocals. Laird’s voice shines on “Doomed” as he encapsulates the dissociation and desolation found throughout the upcoming album which was written through a tumultuous relationship, wilting day job, and the tail-end of Laird’s twenties. However, there is optimism found within Sleepwalker as the contemplative tunes help Laird come to the conclusion that a life lived on autopilot is a life wasted.
