Premiere: BIG EVIL RAT - “Insincere / I Am Found”

BIG EVIL RAT are finally… and I mean FINALLY gearing up to release their debut album. This six-piece garage-rock band have been the talk of Alberta for years based solely on the immense power of their live show. Two full kits pummel the senses while the rest of the band expertly navigates ear-worm melodies for frontman Nolan Bossert’s raw lyrical delivery. There’s a reason they’ve become mainstays at the most influential festivals on the Prairies and have been selected to open for Dehd, The Mystery Lights, Hotline TNT, Death Valley Girls and more. They rip. End of story.

After spending the winter months of 2025 recording ten new songs live-off-the-floor with the help of Emily Bachynski’s producing chops, BIG EVIL RAT are gearing up to release their self titled debut album on July 3rd, 2026.

Today, Cups N Cakes is extremely excited to premiere the second single from the forthcoming record. A staple in their live set, “Insincere / I Am Found” is two tracks wrapped into one and married together with a raucous instrumental freak-out. Enjoy the track below and be sure to catch them at Sled Island Music Festival this June and if you're in Edmonton on July 4th, Southbound Brewery is the only place to be. Tickets for their album release show are moving fast, get them here.

"I did it all very DIY. Everything you see was me learning on the fly. I'm a carpenter not a musician, or a journalist, or a publicist... I'm a carpenter and a weird crazy music fan that thought he could do something fun that might benefit something I care about"

Over the years, MacCallum's commitment to elevating Canadian music earned him a spot as a Polaris Prize Juror, a WCMA Juror, a consultant for music festival curation, and a dear friend to independent music in Canada.
