Premiere: Terra - “Where I Go”
Way back in 2014, Cups N Cakes was in its infancy. We were moving away from being mainly focused on Edmonton acts by starting to deliver larger coverage of the prairies. Right at that time there was this band from the small city of Medicine Hat in southern Alberta that was blowing minds across Alberta. The campus stations loved this band, Cups N Cakes loved this band. In fact, their debut EP, Couldn’t Save This, was named our favourite EP of 2014! They played for a year or two after that but never released anything else before fizzling out. Luckily their legend lived on through a small group of hyper-local-music-focused folks around Alberta. These uber-music nerds (myself included) would reminisce on this great band and occasionally spin their incredible 10” EP at home.
That band was called Terra.
It was the project of Chris Kessler and several members of the Medicine Hat music scene. They played a brand of lo-fi post-punk, dark-pop, and new-wave that all came together with gritty urgency that was new and exciting back then. Unfortunately the band gave us the ol’ “Irish Exit” and were not heard from again…. until now!
Ten years of hiatus is about to come to and end as Kessler has revived the name and has once again snapped up a group of pals in his local community to create their debut album, I Don't Have Long. Today, we are extremely excited to share with you the debut single from this, forthcoming album. The track is called “Where I Go” and it deals with themes of unrequited love, loneliness, and sacrificing one's autonomy as a human to satisfy their need for love and acceptance.
