Video Premiere: Secondhand Dreamcar - “Where All the Time Has Gone”

Edmonton’s Secondhand Dreamcar have had a busy couple of years since the release of their 2024 debut, Answer the Call. That album was nominated for a JUNO for Blues Album of the Year this year, making the band both the only first-time nominee and the only fully independent artist in the category. They’ve played landmark shows at the Edmonton Folk Fest and Calgary Blues Fest and have been touring non-stop, playing sold-out shows throughout the Prairies and beyond. They recently announced their sophomore album, Get Ready, and following the release of its first two singles, the Cups N Cakes Network is pleased to premiere the third and final track before the album drops on September 25th.
The song is called “Where All the Time Has Gone,” and it’s another data point in Secondhand Dreamcar’s track record of releasing immaculately groovy, danceable soul tunes. The track starts off with a New Orleans-flavoured horn intro and keeps channeling those laid-back Big Easy vibes through the verses before launching into an explosive, Motown-styled chorus. The seed for this song came during a walk lead singer and keyboardist Dana Wylie took in Kinnaird Ravine in Edmonton, where she had the kind of realization you can only have on a good nature walk— that you spend your whole life waiting for something that at some point you come to understand you’ve had the whole time. Wylie explains the song's inspiration:
“You may as well make friends with the god of time, cuz you ain’t gonna beat him. When I finally and fully realized this, I laughed. And then I wrote this song.”
