Video Premiere: Laura Hickli - Finding You're Not Missing a Thing
Laura Hickli is a Calgary artist making a “high-art” hybrid style of baroque-pop. We first caught wind of her incredible music in 2020 when we made the track “Listen” a “Quick Pick.” After hearing that song, she was on on radar and we patiently waited for more which would end up arriving as an EP in 2022.
The five song release, Both Feet In The World, At Least I Can Stand, came out in October of 2022 and ended up finding its way onto our list of the Best EPs from last year. Furthermore, her video for the first single from that EP, “Love, Outlive Me”, was listed on our list of the Best Music Videos of 2022. Today we are very excited to be premiering the next video from this highly lauded release.
The video is for the closing track, “Finding You're Not Missing a Thing”, and was directed by Samantha Selci. Shot cinematically, the story follows a day in the life of Hickli as she takes on the task of caregiver to her Catholic mother. The video flips between flashbacks of a childhood rich in imaginative escapism and intimate interactions between the dissimilar mother and daughter.
