Video Premiere: Kue Varo & The Only Hopes

The Cups N Cakes Network is excited to be premiering the music video for the brand new single from Calgary art-rock band Kue Varo and the Only Hopes. The new song and video comes on the heels of the bands appearance at Reeperbahn in Hamburg, Germany as part of CIMA’s Canada House. Following up their critically-acclaimed 2023 album Cowboy Witchcraft, “Honeymoon Loss” is alt-pop-rocker that speaks to preserving the clarity and freedom found in collapse. Musing on the tracks lyrical content, Kue Varo states:

“There’s a profound sense of freedom when everything has fallen apart and you have to start over. But what happens when you start rebuilding? Can you stay free once the dust settles and suddenly you have obligations to a new life?

The video was directed by Heather Saitz and features the band playing in a backyard at night with fluorescent lighting peeking through foliage and a smoke machine… gotta love a smoke machine! No signal has been made by Kue Varo and the Only Hopes of whether this new track is a lead up to a new album but we here at Cups N Cakes are certainly crossing our fingers for that to be the case. For now, we are beyond excited to share new music from this incredible up and coming Calgary act.

"I did it all very DIY. Everything you see was me learning on the fly. I'm a carpenter not a musician, or a journalist, or a publicist... I'm a carpenter and a weird crazy music fan that thought he could do something fun that might benefit something I care about"

Over the years, MacCallum's commitment to elevating Canadian music earned him a spot as a Polaris Prize Juror, a WCMA Juror, a consultant for music festival curation, and a dear friend to independent music in Canada.
