Samantha Savage Smith - “My Friends”
Word of a new song from Samantha Savage Smith is always cause for celebration among the volunteers here at the Cups N Cakes Network, and we’re pleased to say that her latest single “My Friends” doesn’t disappoint. It comes out everywhere tomorrow, but you can check out the song and it’s accompanying music video a day early below. It’s the first single from Smith’s upcoming album Little Place, which will be coming in the first half of 2026.
The song is produced by longtime collaborator and drummer Chris Dadge, who starts the song off with a “Making Plans for Nigel”-esque drum intro, before settling into a gentler groove with some truly lovely interplay between two electric guitars. Those who have seen Samantha Savage Smith live can speak to just how good her band is, and they’re firing on all cylinders here, whether it’s prairie-McCartney Brock Geiger’s woody flatwound goodness or guitarist Nate Waters’ aforementioned guitar lines. And they’re all songwriters too! Crazy.
Here’s a bit about the song from Sam herself:
“This is one of the first songs to be written and recorded for this album. At the time I didn’t have many other songs in the works, and had no idea where to start or what I wanted the new record to sound like. In classic fashion the song came together in one sitting quietly plucking at the guitar and whispering lyrics at 2am to not wake anyone up.”
You can check out the music video for “My Friends” below, and it will be released everywhere you stream music tomorrow, October 28th. Samantha Savage Smith’s upcoming record Little Place is coming out in the first half of 2026.
