Premiere: Natural Sympathies - “Beloved”

Cups N Cakes is extremely excited to deliver an exclusive premiere of the first single from Natural Sympathies forthcoming new album. The project dates back to 2016 and is the brainchild of Regina’s Amber Goodwyn. What was once a solo moniker for Goodwyn now includes Darcy McIntyre, Dana Rempel, and Tanner Wilhelm Hale for live performances. We became enamoured with Natural Sympathies years ago for their new take on pop-music that smashes pleasing conventional pop with conceptual high-art. There’s a special whimsy to the synth landscape and poetic musings on a Natural Sympathies release that make it stand out over most indie pop acts we hear.

The new album is called Romance Novel and is inspired by stories gathered from the community through an anonymous survey called The Love Survey. An official release date is not yet confirmed but today we are giving you a taste with an exclusive premiere of the first single, “Beloved.” The track is a fun, uptempo number with playful lyrics and an ultra-fun ear worm chorus that had me dancing in my chair while writing this article.

Enjoy the song below one day before you can find it on streaming service. As always, we recommend checking out the artists Bandcamp page. If you enjoyed what you heard, please consider purchasing their music.

Jeff MacCallum is our founder. He created Cups N Cakes simply because he had a love of local music. Soon the platform grew beyond the confines of his scene in Edmonton to include all of Canada.

"I did it all very DIY. Everything you see was me learning on the fly. I'm a carpenter not a musician, or a journalist, or a publicist... I'm a carpenter and a weird crazy music fan that thought he could do something fun that might benefit something I care about"

Over the years, MacCallum's commitment to elevating Canadian music earned him a spot as a Polaris Prize Juror, a WCMA Juror, a consultant for music festival curation, and a dear friend to independent music in Canada.
