Premiere: Nervous Service - Wave Goodbye to the Ghost

Today we are very excited to introduce our readers to a new project called Nervous Service by delivering an exclusive premiere of their debut release.

Nervous Service is the musical project of Aaron Schmidtke whose previous project, Lovely Company, was covered many times by Cups N Cakes. As Lovely Company went on hiatus due to members moving away from Vancouver, Schmidtke needed a new outlet for releasing his music and Nervous Service was born.

His debut EP, Wave Goodbye to the Ghost will be released tomorrow (October 2nd, 2026) via Easy Freaker Records. The EP features calm, downtempo arrangements that blend dream-pop with adult contemporary to deliver vibes of late night contemplation. The feel of the release echoes its theme of processing and acknowledging change.

Written, recorded, and refined over the course of four years in an old, rundown, DIY basement studio in Vancouver, Wave Goodbye to the Ghost takes the listener on a wonderful journey of acceptance and letting go. Take 30 minutes from your busy schedule to put on some headphones and hit play. Feel the calming waves wash over you and enjoy this meditative moment in your day.

Please consider supporting Nervous Service by purchasing Wave Goodbye to the Ghost by hitting the “pre-order” button in the player below. If you like what you hear and want to dive into Schmidtke’s previous project, check out Lovely Company here.

Jeff MacCallum

Jeff MacCallum is our founder. He created Cups N Cakes simply because he had a love of local music. Soon the platform grew beyond the confines of his scene in Edmonton to include all of Canada.

"I did it all very DIY. Everything you see was me learning on the fly. I'm a carpenter not a musician, or a journalist, or a publicist... I'm a carpenter and a weird crazy music fan that thought he could do something fun that might benefit something I care about"

Over the years, MacCallum's commitment to elevating Canadian music earned him a spot as a Polaris Prize Juror, a WCMA Juror, a consultant for music festival curation, and a dear friend to independent music in Canada.
