Video Premiere - Cryptozoologists - “Jumper Cables”

Cryptozoologists have been friends of the Cups N Cakes Network for a while now; we’ve premiered a handful of songs for the Whitehorse based band (as recently as April of 2024), and they never fail to disappoint. Well, good news for fellow fans of the band— we’ve got an early look at the lead single of the band’s forthcoming LP Backwater Station, due out in 2026. The song is called “Jumper Cables”, and it comes out everywhere tomorrow, September 10th, but you can check it now below.

Breakup Records labelmate Alex MacNeil describes the song as “Sheryl Crow meets Franz Kafka”, and he hits at something here about how lead singer Zach McCann-Armitage conveys this rambling, melancholic, and repetitive mundanity, but does it with a sort of goofy vulnerability that’s entirely captivating. Throw in a raggedy John Fogerty-esque rallying cry of a title drop, with a tasty pentatonic guitar lick after it, and I’m hooked. It’s tasteful and surprising and a great sign of things to come for the rest of the album.

“Jumper Cables” is the lead single to the Cryptozoologists forthcoming record Backwater Station, which will be arriving in early 2026.
