Premiere: The Cross Sea - “Just Like Adrianne”
Today we are excited to deliver an exclusive premiere a day before the official release of “Just Like Adrianne,” the second single from the debut album by The Cross Sea.
The Cross Sea is a new project fronted by Toronto songwriter Anna Mernieks-Duffield who is best known for her work in Beams and Ace of Wands, two bands we’ve covered in the past. For the project, she’s teamed up with acclaimed producer Kevin S. McMahon (Swans, Real Estate, Pile), and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Liss. Together they’ve crafted an art-folk sound that is dark, dreamy and highly cinematic. The track features bright and airy guitar over a sparse, calculated rhythm section but what really stands out on “Just Like Adrianne” is Mernieks-Duffield’s haunting vocals. Her voice truly soars and is highlighted by a harmonizing backing track that gives the song an ethereal quality.
When asked about the lyrical content, Mernieks-Duffield said:
“It describes a kind of love and knowing that is almost cruel in its certainty, but also gives the greatest celebration and moments of awe.I set out to explore the process of writing a song that describes, lyrically and musically, the root and the flower of fully fledged adoration.”
The song arrives today if the form a video with cool visual effects added to studio footage and random nature shots. Enjoy the track below and look for the debut album from The Cross Sea on February 13th, 2026.
