Premiere: Lovelet - “Dog Song”
Lovelet is the solo project of songwriter Tim Biziaev. The project has been around for nearly a decade but only has one album, Couple’s Fight Night (2018), to its name. That fantastic record was loved here at Cups N Cakes way back in our infancy (proof can be found here in my 2018 review!). Although Biziaev only has the one release, Lovelet has continued to play live throughout the years. The biggest reason for the eight year gap between new recorded music is due to Biziaev living a somewhat transient life since that albums release. Over the past decade, Biziaev has moved from Edmonton to Montreal to Calgary to Edmonton and finally back to Montreal. Life events had Biziaev bouncing around so much, most notably his stint in Calgary where he relocated to pursue a masters in math & statistics. While in Calgary, he continued Lovelet with members of Stucco and Local Singles.
Today we are very excited to announce the long awaited follow-up to Couple’s Fight Night. On May 7th, Lovelet will release their sophomore album, Freedom River Float, which was recorded with Toronto’s Ben Mike. The record is the culmination of a slow recording process that began in 2020, seeing the two chip away at the tracks whenever able. As one would expect, the tracks feature contributions from musicians all across Canada, including members of Knitting (Mtl), Andy & The Dannys (Mtl), Audreanne Filion (Mtl), Eliza Niemi (TO), Potions (TO), Burs (TO), Sara May (TO), Stucco (Calgary), Local Singles (Calgary), Bugswallow (Calgary), Chris Dadge (Calgary, as lead recording engineer/mixer for 1 song) and Jom Comyn (Edmonton).
When asked about the themes found within the album, Biziaev stated:
“Lyrically, most of the songs deal with interpersonal stuff, your relationship with yourself, regret, joy, and basically tracks the prevalent themes of me going through my 20s. There are frequent references to nature, animals, weather, and conversations between people.”
He continued:
“Musically, the album covers a wide range of vibes and styles, and a wide range of instrument tones. The album moves between country-folk indie rock, to feedback-heavy electric guitar driven rock, to fully acoustic ballads, all tied together through my own style of songwriting. Lots of time was spent experimenting with tones and capturing those tones effectively, in hopes of creating something that sounds rich, interesting, and new.”
Along with the announcement of Freedom River Float, we are very excited to share the track “Dog Song”. Check it out below and for folks in Montreal and Toronto, be sure to get out in early May to Lovelet’s album release shows.
